What does it mean to have high self-regard?
According to the dictionary, self-regard means regard or consideration for oneself and self-respect. For me, is how you view yourself, your worthiness, your talents and your perception of who you are and also how you look.
Positive Self regard
An individual with positive self-regard will value themselves and have healthy levels of self-esteem and confidence. They will feel secure and safe in the world and know they are worthy of a good life. This results in positive relationships with others and a feeling of confidence about their abilities. They may also be open to experiencing and learning new things.
Negative Self Regard
Common traits of individuals with low self-regard include:
- Feeling negative or bad about oneself
- Seeing yourself as broken or faulty
- Considering oneself as being unworthy / undeserving of great things
- Feeling inferior to other people
- Disliking your appearance
Taking Steps to Feel Better about yourself
If you have been trying for some time to improve the way you feel about yourself I recommend you try Inner Child Coaching. Many of our negative beliefs about ourselves are formed during childhood. As a result, no amount of convincing yourself as ‘an adult’ will change how you feel about yourself! Inner child coaching will heal the source of the issues or belief. Is it a gentle yet inspiring way to heal.
Other ways include:
- Write a list of what you are good at and what you like about yourself
- Be kind and compassionate to yourself. …Treat yourself like a small child.
- Recognise you own needs and wants are important
- Remind yourself that you are equal to everyone else on the planet
- Regularly praise yourself,
